It can be tricky hitting that sweet spot between fun & healthy when it comes to kid party food, especially when it's going to be shared in a classroom. You want it to be fun for the kids, but not a straight up sugar bomb. IMO it should be nut free just in case and at least imply you tried to go healthy. When my eldest turned 6 last month, I found myself standing in front of my open refrigerator trying to come up with something that ticked all the boxes when my eyes locked on 2 cartons of strawberries. Everyone loves strawberries, right??
Seriously, this couldn't have been any easier.
- Angel food cake, cubed
- Whipped cream
- Rainbow sprinkles / jimmies
- Ziploc storage containers (Amazon product link)
I'd like to revisit this "recipe" later on with homemade angel food cake & whipped cream for better quality control, but overall everyone was satisfied! The kids had their festive birthday treat and I won an approving nod from the kindergarten teacher for incorporating real fruit. I call that a win!
